Becoming Your Best Self

By on January 25, 2018

There are many ways to becoming your best self, different ideas and advice are everywhere these days. It can be hard to decipher what is real advice and what is just fluff. It may take some time to find ways that resonate with you, but they are there if you have a little patience. Making a change to become more self aware, change in habits and change of beliefs can take time. Take your time, go in small steps and start today. Your best self is waiting.

Ideas to Chew On

  • Self awarness is comprised of self-love and self-acceptance
  • Focus on what you are great at now, not what you will be in the future. The common “I must fix my self”, “When I do (fill in the blank)” are ways to hold us back from being great now. Don’t wait, you are great just the way you are
  • Seminars and workshops are fun, easy ways to learn new skills or expand on current knowledge
  • What is your purpose? It needs to be something that you choose
  • Remember that failure is feedback and fuel to do better. How many times did Edison fail in the making of the lightbulb? 1000, ….one-thousand times – now that’s belief in one’s self
  • Parkinson’s Law: “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion”. This is very true, the less time you have to work, the more that you will get done – hence, work expands to fill the time available for completion. Limit your time for working. Lifehack has a nice article on Parkinson’s Law

A while back I was able to listen to the wonderful Dale Smith-Thomas, a motivational speaker and author, and she had some great insight on how our choices make us champions.

  1. Identify your problems and empower your solutions, ask for what you want
  2. Whatever you are focusing on will get bigger, make sure it’s something positive
  3. Talk positive about what you want to achieve in life
  4. “What if today we only had what we were grateful for yesterday”
  5. Turn bad days into character building days
  6. Make a point to tell someone each day “Good Morning Gorgeous” and help others achieve their greatness
  7. Repeat positive words often
  8. Remember that someones’s opinions are NOT your reality
  9. The first 30 minutes of each day will determine your productivity for the rest of the day
  10. If you can look up, you can get up
